MASCULINITIES: Quick Write in response to Bordo's chapter
One of the three quotes from Susan Bordo’s “beauty (re)discovers the make body,” I interpret is (3). What I interpret in this quote is that men are only suppose to act out in the photo's, look sharp, show how a man is suppose to look, not care about fashion or anything else because if so then they will find him suspicous and is unmanly, sexually suspect”. And a women suppose to care only about the clothe and make up (fashion) because that is what women "supposly" care about when they go out, try to keep up with today's fashion or try and impress some guy's. It applies to my ad because the guy has a build up body to show how a guy has to have a body to be manly and show no sign's of being unmanly, act out how men suppose to act on certain situations.Like in my ad he has no shirt, in shorts, smiling and on the beach and is showing of the body on the beach as if thats what guy's are suppose to do when in the beach.

i agree there is less tolerance for men wanting to display their bodies in a sexual manner
ReplyDeleteYou did well with the interpretation but you did not explain what Bordo means by 'unmanly, sexually suspect'? Also, is your ad an example that supports this quote or not? Is the male, who is on the beach, showing off his body, acting in a 'manly' manner or in a feminine manner, since he cares about his body and wants others to look at him?
